About the Chickenshack

We have lots of space here at the shack, and our selection of backline and vintage keys are just one reason to use the studio.. our experience and skill in accoustic and analogue recording has a twenty year pedigree, and we can accommodate small bands to large ensemble groups with a minimum of fuss.

The two studio rooms, both have comfortable control rooms with plenty of space for you to relax between takes. We have a small but perfectly formed kitchen with all mod cons for your convenience.

Situated on Carlton Road, the local amenities are many, and our close proximity to the city centre means

that all types of accomodation, eateries and music suppliers are literally a step away.

As well as recording and rehearal we can transfer most formats of tape from two inch studio masters, down to vintage home recordings on 1/4 inch reels, to your choice of digital format.

We also offer remote and location recording.

Music for all

“We want to provide a top class facility for local musicians,” explains owner Miles. “We have a great range of equipment, some of which is nice rare vintage gear and we aim to make the use of a professional studio affordable to people, part of this approach is that we offer bands the opportunity to pay for the facilities on a monthly basis which affords them regular access over the period.”

Another way that the team at Chicken Shack is encouraging local talent is by offering workshops in recording to small groups of budding enthusiasts. “These events give people the opportunity to have a specific role in recording a live band,” explains Miles. “It’s a great way for them to gain first hand experience of the necessary skills needed for recording live music.”

Chicken shack also offers tuition on an hourly basis as well as instrument and equipment hire for studio use from a range including a John Brinsmead baby Grand Piano, a Fender Rhodes Electric Piano, a Hammond B3 organ, a Moog Minimoog and a Wurlitzer Electric Piano.
